MAGGIE

As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to name my little girl Maggie one day.  I'm not sure where it all started…

Perhaps with Maggie Seaver on Growing Pains, one of my favorite shows when growing up?

Maybe the coolest grandmother you would ever meet?
My "Granny" is Margaret, but goes by Peggy.  I always thought I would want to name a little girl after her as she has always been someone I have looked up to.  Granny was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and seriously…the coolest Granny!  You should see her do the moonwalk and dance on top of ladders at weddings!

But my other grandmother was someone I will never forget, although she passed away when I was younger.  I am always told how much I look like her, and that is where I get my blonde hair from (my entire family has dark brown hair except for me, my dad's mom, and my dad's brother).  So, I thought I would name my little girl, Maggie Marie, after both of my grandmothers.  I wasn't a huge fan of Marie, but I didn't want to leave her out.

Well, I have been MIA a little, and yes I got sucked into The Help, but that is not all that was going on.  We had the beautiful wedding of the year, followed by dad's birthday, and as we sat down our beach chairs the following weekend for what we thought would be a nice relaxing time, the phone rang, and we got a call that my dad's brother was not doing well.  My dad and I rushed off the beach and headed home trying to make it to the hospital on time.  Unfortunately, we did not make it in time, and my uncle passed away before we got there.  The week was a very trying week, as the hardest part was emailing my sister who was in Bora Bora and not telling her what was going on, as we didn't want to upset her on her honeymoon.  I felt guilty that I was writing her telling her things were fine here.  Ugh.  But she's home and okay with it.

Anyways, long story short (or maybe not!), during all this funeral planning/finding papers, etc, we found my dad's mom's birth certificate.  You are not going to believe this…her real name is MAGGIE!!!!  She must have changed it somewhere along the lines to Marie.

I'm sold, one day, if I'm lucky enough to be blessed with a little girl, Maggie will have a strong family name!  And Maggie Mae by Rod Stewart will be playing on her birthday!

  3. So sorry to hear about your uncle.

As far as the name Maggie goes... it's definitely meant to be! I love how meaningful it will be. My husband and I plan on incorporating part of his late grandmothers name, "Rose" from "Rosemary", into our future first daughter's name :)
